Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find your terms and conditions?

You can read our terms and conditions on our website here.

What is your cancelation policy?

A handling fee of 20% of the total reservation cost-per-unit will be charged on cancellations made more than 60 days prior to arrival. There are no cancellations or modifications to reservations within 60 days of arrival. Also, partial or pro-rated refunds are not available in cases of weather, lack of snow, poor skiing conditions, health issues or transportation delays.

We also do not allow cancellations over major Holidays (Christmas, New Years, Presidents Week).

We strongly recommend you obtain travelers’ insurance. Please contact CSA Insurance at 1-866-999-4018 for any questions regarding coverage with a Travel Insurance Policy.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is at 4 p.m unless you have purchased an early check-in at 1:00 pm, and check-out is at 10 a.m unless you have purchased a late check out at 1:00 pm.

Do you offer early check-ins and late check-outs?

Peak Seasons: Due to Covid, we are unable to accommodate early check-ins or late check-outs.

Non-Peak Seasons: Yes, but it depends on the availability of the unit. Please email or call us to find out the availability of early/late check.

Our standard fee for early check-in or late check-out is $100. This would change your check-in/check-out time as follows:
Early Check-In: 1:00 pm instead of 4:00 pm
Late Check-Out: 1:00 pm instead of 10:00 am

What is your smoking policy?

Smoking is not permitted in any residence or its property. A $500 fee will be charged if evidence of smoking is detected.

What is your damage protection policy?

Instead of charging a security or damage deposit, all guests are billed at a non-refundable fee of $39 at the time of booking. This ensures you and your traveling party are protected with up to $1,000 in coverage towards unintentional property damages that occur during your stay.

We’ve found this approach is much easier and less expensive for our guests than a substantial deposit payment. Your initial cost to book is much lower, and there is no need to worry about a dispute with the owner over potential damages after your stay.

We do want to caution all guests that intentional and willful damage, as well as damage caused by violating rules including but not limited to the property’s maximum occupancy or “No Pets” policies, may still be assessed a post-stay charge per the terms of our Rental Agreement.

Please note: Coverage will not be provided unless you take all reasonable, necessary steps to protect the damaged property and to prevent further damage, as well as immediately (and in no event later than check-out) report the damage in writing, with pictures, to Northern Michigan Escapes.

How much do I owe when I book a vacation rental and when is it due?

If you are booking more than 60 days in advance of your arrival, you will be charged 50% of the total reservation at the time of booking. Then, the other 50% will be due 60 days before your arrival.

If you are booking less than 60 days before your arrival, you will be charged 100% of the total reservation at the time of booking.

Can I add a day on to my reservation?

Absolutely! As long as the property is available. Please call us at (231) 459-4257 to check availability or to modify your reservation.

When will I get the home address and information on how to access the property?

We send arrival instructions to the email we have on file before the week of your arrival.  Arrival Instructions are emailed every Monday morning.

If you have not received your arrival instructions and it is during the week of your stay, check your Junk Mail folder as they can sometimes be filtered as spam.

If it’s within the week of your arrival and they are not in your inbox or Junk Mail, you can contact our reservations department at (231) 459-4257 to have another copy sent.

Do you offer travel insurance?

Yes, we do! Unlike hotels, vacation rentals require non-refundable payments to secure a reservation. That’s why we highly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect against unforeseen issues that occur before and during your trip.

CSA Insurance covers up to 100% of your non-refundable trip cost if you cancel due to an approved reason. You can add their travel insurance to your reservation for just 6.95% of your total booking fee. Please contact CSA Insurance at 1-866-999-4018 for any questions regarding coverage with a Travel Insurance Policy.

Travel insurance is optional and can be added to your reservation during the booking process. If you have an existing reservation and would like to add travel insurance to an existing reservation, please call us at (231) 459-4257.

We're staying at a Boyne Mountain property. Do we have access to their pool and other sponsored activities?

No, you do not get access to those amenities when booking through us. However, you can pay to use Avalanche Waterpark at Boyne Mountain. There are also two nearby beaches – Deer Lake beach (on Boyne property) and Young State Park beach (6 miles from Boyne Mountain)

What types of appliances and amenities are at the property?

Since all of the properties we manage have different owners, you will need to review the amenities list for the property you will be staying at, which can be found on our website.

Can I bring a pet?

Please note that we have a strict no pets policy at our properties unless they are designated a pet-friendly home and you have paid for the corresponding pet fee which would be noted on your reservation confirmation.

Do you allow social events?

Since our properties are in residential areas or condominium buildings and out of respect for neighbors, large gatherings and social events are prohibited. This includes but is not limited to weddings, birthday parties and receptions at any of our properties. Additional charges for cleaning and any fines incurred by the owner will be charged to the guest.
